Walter J. Chlysta, MD, FACS, FASMBS, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Pre-medicine at Kent State University. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Medicine where he graduated Cum Laude and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at Akron General Medical Center where he was named Chief Surgical Resident.
Dr. Chlysta is a Clinical Associate Professor of General Surgery at Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Clinical Professor of Surgery at Northeastern Ohio Medical University. He has achieved fellowship status in the American College of Surgeons and is also a Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. He also is a member of The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Chlysta is the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Western Reserve Hospital. He was one of the first surgeons to introduce minimally-invasive bariatric surgery to Northeast Ohio and was the first surgeon to perform minimally invasive weight loss surgery in Summit County. He has personally performed over 1,000 bariatric procedures with excellent results. In addition to offering minimally-invasive bariatric and general surgery procedures, an additional area of focus is minimally-invasive anti-reflux surgery and complex hiatal hernia repair/reoperation.
